Hi Suzie,

I was just doing some shopping and I saw your post.   You have to be really gentle on yourself as you go through these different segments of healing.  After the surgury, there will be swelling and you will need to get lots of rest as you heal.  Now is a good time to think of the things you would like to do but haven't had the time to do - what books you like, what movies can you stock up on?  Pick up a journal to use the time to write.  Schedule visits from your friends - arrange for your girlfriends and family to bring meals on different days and have them stay with you for a visit.  Stay connected to the outside world and your world won't seem as difficult.  You will want to take at least a full 6 weeks of recovery time.  Incisions need to heal, swelling has to calm down.  Remember that you are not alone and those of us that have been through it send out our strength and comfort for you.  Jessica :)

Hi there.  I have just been diagnosed recently and I am due to have a "Modified radical mastectomy" in a few weeks time and I was just wondering about what about healing and what to expect?  How long will it take to heal?  When can I expect to feel myself again?  Get back to life as normal?  Any advise would be appreciated!  Sue x
